Recently, Wechat is testing its new function — micro-video. It is said the design concept of micro-video is similar to short videos.
Users can launch camera in Wechat and then make 6-8 seconds’ micro-video to share in Wechat moments directly; however they can not share the video on other Chinese social media, such as Weibo or QQ.
The new update of Wechat to include videoing feature only includes basic film function without themes, filter or background music. It does not have social features like Meipai which enables users to share videos on Weibo, QQ Zone, Wechat moments to receive comments from others
Tencent has also removed Weibo business division and moved the team to Tencent News team focusing on video clips sharing product called Weishi (literally means micro-video) according to Southern Metropolis Daily.
Update: the newly released Wechat 6 for iOS has included the micro-video shooting feature
