Meizu, Mi and Smartisan are popular local smartphone brands in China. Yet, different city tiers in China may have a preference toward different smartphone brands.
According to a research from Umeng between June and August this year, major users in first and second tier cities favor local mobile phone brands.
Mi and Mezizu’s geographical distribution are similar to each other as they both compete for the same type of consumers in the first and second tier cities.

Samsung leads China’s smartphone market (23%) by total sales volume, followed by Xiaomi (21%) and iPhone (16%) during a five-month period ended in May 2014, reported by Kantar Worldpanel. The report shows that 70% of Xiaomi buyers were smartphone users prior to purchasing Xiaomi, among which 20% are already Xiaomi users from Jan to May 2014.
Phones with Android system dominated Chinese smartphone market, representing 89.9% of the total number of phones sold in China according to an research from iiMedia.
