Mobile app stores accounted for 46.9% of total mobile app downloads in China, ranking the top app download source in 2013, in which app store mobile client represented 25.4% and desktop client 21.5%.
iResearch analyzed that, with wide Wifi coverage in household, workplace and public, users have much easier access to app store without having to worry about data cost. In addition, app downloading in mobile app store is much more convenient than other sources.
It is obvious that mobile app store is now indispensable for mobile devices and for users to update apps. Users logging in app store 2-3 times a week accounted for 40.3% of all users, followed by everyday logging in.
iResearch data shows that gaming app downloads is the favorite among all the app categories in China mobile app stores in 2013, accounting for 49.7%, followed by instant messenger apps and video player apps. We can see the apps for entertainment meet users’ daily needs for fun, so the frequency of such apps downloads is high.
45.5% of China mobile users use only free apps while 15% users’ free apps are more than 50%.
On average, every month over 64.1% China mobile users spent no more than 5 yuan buying apps in mobile app stores; 13.9% spent between 6-20 yuan; 11.1% between 21-50 yuan; 6.4% between 51-100 yuan; 2.6% between 101-150 yuan; 0.9% 151-200 yuan; 0.9% spent over 200 yuan per month in 2013.
Safety and protection app category is the most paid apps among mobile paid apps, followed by mobile gaming, navigation and maps.
