According to Tmall’s official data released on Weibo, there are 1,039.9 thousand smartphones sold on 18 Jun online shopping promotion day, more than all offline smartphone retail channels’ combined one day sales.
Tmall, part of Alibaba Group GMV reached RMB 135 billion in the first quarter of 2014, almost doubled previous year’s first quarter (YoY 91%).
This is part of Tmall mid-year promotion, which promoted one category of products in each day. Tmall skincare products sold RMB 300 million on 16 Jun; and, lifestyle and fashion category reached RMB 500 million within 17 hours on 17 Jun.
Total GMV on Alibaba Group retail marketpalce reached 270 billion from 255 million active buyers and 8 million active sellers in a twelve-month period ended on 31 March 2014.
Taobao and Tmall are huge online retail platforms in China, where some local companies and international brand experienced success while some failed.
