For the first four months of 2018, internet enterprises above designated size in China generated 264.9 billion yuan, an increase of 24.9% year-on-year. Meanwhile, the overall R&D expenditure totaled 14.45 billion yuan, up by 22.3% over last year, according to MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology).
By the end of April 2018, there are 4.14 million mobile apps in China, over 2.31 million at Android app stores and over 1.83 million at iPhone App Store. In particular, Android app stores and iPhone App Store altogether launched 140,000 new mobile apps in April.
The number of gaming apps reached 1.45 million, increased by 110,000 from last month. Moreover, there were 498,000 lifestyle service apps, 392,000 e-commerce apps, 366,000 audio and video player apps, 18,300 smart logistics apps, and 13,000 online payment apps.
In terms of downloads, gaming apps, systematic tools apps, social communication apps, and audio and video player apps all saw over 100 billion downloads by the end of April, 210.1 billion, 199.8 billion, 160.2 billion, and 158.6 billion respectively.
Apart from that, there are other apps with over 50 billion downloads like daily tools apps (89.13 billion), lifestyle service (70.26 billion), news information (66.71 billion), e-commerce (58.03 billion), and finance (52.26 billion).
