Tmall GMV on Singles Day (Double 11) in 2016 reached 120.7 billion yuan (US$17.79 bn) with an increase of 32% YoY, covering 235 countries; mobile accounted for 81.87%. Find out the top selling product categories.
Nearly 30% respondents placed their orders in the first hour of Singles’ Day in China according to Kantar and CTR. The second peak was between 9am and 10am; and, the third peak was at between 8pm and 9pm when nearly 10% was buying.
The same survey found that about 30% respondents started to do their research for Singles Day shopping list “two weeks ahead”, 40% “two to three days earlier”. There are 22% people said they “didn’t do any research and bought whatever they like on Singles Day”.
Apparel, food, and shoes are the top 3 selling categories based on Kantar’s survey. Other mainstream categories which appeared to be more popular than initially thought are home appliances, cosmetics and personal care.
