The newly launched Renren timeline does look like that of Facebook, where users can add stories being either text, photos, music or video. Users can also upload cover photos as well.
Currently users who don’t like the timeline feature can switch back to the old interface.
The twist from Facebook timeline interface is that, users can update status, upload photos and share a story. Once a photo is selected, the users are encouraged to add a time stamp (it can’t be the future for scheduling post). The story sharing is categorized into work and study, family, lifestyle, health and travel experience.
This could be a useful feature to increase the engagement on Renren and win more users.
So far, Renren has about 172 million activated users with monthly log-in users of 48 million. Renren is struggling while Sina Weibo has reached 400 million users. However, depending on the industry and target users, Renren could be more valuable to some businesses.
