WeChat Wi-Fi is running its last round in China. Early in March 2015, WeChat released WeChat Wi-Fi’s application entry. WeChat insiders said that WeChat Wi-Fi had been tested 2 versions before its entry’s release. Now, merchants can register for WeChat Wi-Fi within 5 minutes; further, WeChat users can scan to log in WeChat Wi-Fi without entering the password.
During the period from June 2013 to June 2014, WeChat usage rate increased by 26%, ranking top among all the popular social platforms worldwide according to research of L2. WeChat Wi-Fi’s launching can meet various kinds of needs in China.
The conditions for WeChat Wi-Fi were not so good as users were not familiar with the function of scanning on WeChat. With efforts in 2014, WeChat owns “dynamic stable system” involving other third-parties.
At the beginning of 2105, Tencent invested Wiwide, a business Wi-Fi provider. It is said that WeChat now cooperated with over 10 Wi-Fi providers.
BU Kaijun, the CEO of “Chao Wi-Fi” said that the early marketing of WeChat Wi-Fi and Alipay Wi-Fi depended more on Wi-Fi providers in China.
WeChat Wi-Fi has great potential as it can access 400 million potential users as it said on its official website. Besides, with WeChat Wi-Fi, merchants can get users’ location and consumer habits; and hence the business value can be realized in advertising, marketing and WeChat official account’s traffic.
