Till 16 October in China, total number of Alipay Wallet’s active users exceeded 190 million and the daily mobile payment transaction volume exceeded 45 million, accounting for more than 50% of total Alipay transactions.
Alipay Wallet, mobile payment transaction volume (on a single day) broke the world record of total number of transactions on a single day, set by Alipay itself on Tmall’s Double 11 in 2013 broke Guinness record.

In November 2013, Alipay Wallet, a mobile payment app launched by Alipay, officially announced that it had became an independent brand and then switched to mobile online payment market.
With popularity of Alipay Wallet, Chinese people’s daily life is becoming more convenient. Alipay Wallet, being added with features beyond payment, is making efforts on future hospital, business circle and future transportation, which can bring revolutionary change to daily life.
Future hospital
With Internet and its data storage, future hospital can establish mobile medical service system providing services like registration, waiting for treatment, payment and receiving test reports with mobile phones. Alipay now has cooperated with over 10 hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and ect. It is estimated that it will reach 50 partner hospitals in China by the end of 2014.
Future transportation
Alipay Wallet can make transportation smarter and more convenient in public buses, subway, taxi service, car renting and smart parking. Besides, public transportation card will disappear in the future with assistance of NFC (near field communication) to realize fast payment.
Future business circle
Alipay Wallet integrates offline business with mobile Internet to build intelligent business circle, which can not only bring new experience for users but also strengthen offline businesses’ economic vitality. Users can enjoy free online shopping and experience offline shopping with service like free Wifi and promotions nearby. At present, future business circle is running in two areas in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province in China.
Till December 2013, Internet users in rural China were 177 million; and 149 million users were mobile Internet users. The Internet usage with mobile phone accounted for 84.6% in rural China, which had 5% higher than in cities.
Alibaba plans to invest RMB10 billion ($1.63 billion) in the next 3 to 5 years to establish 1000 county-level operation centers and one million village-level service stations covering one-sixth of rural China.
Besides, Alipay Wallet has a plan for the third & fourth tier cities and rural China’s development. With cloud technology and mobile platform, it aims to improve medical, public transportation, public service in third & fourth tier cities, and help popularize mobile finance service in rural China.
It is estimated by Wang Lijuan, O2O general manager of Ant Financial Group, the number of Alipay Wallet users will exceed 100 million in rural China in the next 2 to 3 years.
